Another lovely week ahead of us! Today
Constantia and Shasmida painted rainbows on the children’s feet and made
beautiful butterfly prints with them! The kids were delighted with the process
of having their feet painted (the older children could do this themselves. It
is a delightful sensory activity!) and seeing the butterfly emerge from
printing their painted feet on paper.
It is a lovely activity to stimulate
creativity. “Feet are not just for walking, running and kicking balls, we can
also do Art with them! What other parts or objects can be used for something
else besides their usual use?” We put down big sheets of paper and the children
could walk the rest of their paint off with some “Stomp Art” making before
washing their feet in warm soapy water.
The children loved it!
Lots of outside play, exploration and
imagination use. The kids are fascinated with the little red beetles that came
out after all the rain we had! It is one of Harry’s favourite past-times,
watching the beetles go about their business.
On Friday we extended our shape activities
by pasting large shapes with tape on the cement. The children could walk, hop
and skip on the lines of the shapes. It is wonderful to use the child’s whole body
to explore the feel, shape and dimensions of shapes, letters, numbers and
words. It makes for pretty holistic and whole child deep learning. We then strewed objects like blocks and
plastic animals on the cement and the children could use brooms, mobs and tongs
to transfer the objects into the different shapes. A lovely shape recognition
game! All the blocks into the square! (Children sweep/transfer blocks into the
square) “Now all the animals into the triangle!” (Children giggle and rush to
sweep the plastic animals into the triangle) One can extend the activity into a
colour recognition and counting activity.
