Mirror Sensory Play

Today a lovely new little girl joined us! Welcome Christy!
Christy took to our little school like a fish to water…its like she’s been here for years! Lots of exploring and playing today.
Constantia and Shasmida made a sensory mirror with kernels of rice, popcorn, beans and lentils. The children loved pulling their fingers through the different grains, practicing their pincer grip by picking up the tiny bits and drawing pictures with their fingers, revealing a reflection of themselves shining through the lines.
We also made the kids a large bowl of popcorn to celebrate the end of a very exciting week!
The children loved digging in with both hands!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sand Foam Day

It was really cold today! Constantia made a cozy fire and I see the kids loved warming their hands in front of the fireplace! We mixed sand and shaving foam in a tray and presented it to the children. It is a marvelous sensory experience of smooth and squishy mixed with the grainy texture of sand!

The children are threading pipe cleaners through straws for a fun fine motor activity. Harry even does this over week-ends he enjoys it so much! The great thing about this activity is that one can build both 2D and 3D shapes with the stiffened straws…the kids love it!

Wool Craft Day

We challenged our little ones to a lovely craft activity today that requires quite a bit of fine motor coordination and finesse. Shasmida cut shapes out of our craft paper and applied two lines of glue on either sides of the cut-out. The children then took individual strands of wool and carefully pasted them next to each other, aiming to fill the entire space. Once finished, we taped the ends of the wool and turned the picture around to reveal a beautifully made wool cut-out craft!
