Archeology Day
My High School in on mid-term break, so I was very fortunate to be home today and to join in on the children's fun! They had a spectacular time constructing, creating, dancing, singing and playing. It warms my heart to see the individual expressions of our little ones when they dance and play instruments! The joy on their faces is priceless. The group is becoming quite a beautiful, tightly knit little unit, with blossoming friendships and camaraderie. The children show real kindness and compassion towards one another. There seems to be a real understanding that some of the children are younger than the others and allowances are made for them accordingly within the group of friends. It is a stunning thing to witness and I am delighted that we have a group of such emotionally intelligent and sensitive beings. :)
Today we pretended to be archeologists and used paintbrushes to "excavate" a tray site full of hidden letters, numbers and animals hidden under a blanket of flour. The children took their task very seriously, and I can see that we have some born archeologists in our midst! Etienne and Daniel paid particular attention to brushing the animals clean before setting them aside in search of the next treasure. A wonderful exploratory and sensory exercise. We expose the children to the shapes and feel of numbers and letters as often as possible in these fun exploration activities so that they can become familiar with the shapes of them and associate with them a truck load of fun.
We are focusing on our Montessori shelf for our fine motor, numeracy and literacy activities this week. Hope everyone has a super week!
