Easter Egg Dyeing

Today the children decorated hard boiled eggs by using two different techniques. For one of the techniques, we put shaving cream in a tray, added blobs of food colourant and let the children pull their fingers through the mixture. This creates a wonderful "marbling effect" and creates fun patterns on the eggs as you roll them through the shaving cream. The eggs should then stand for a while, before wiping off the shaving cream.
The second technique we used was adored by the children! I mixed some baking soda paint this morning (baking soda, food colourant and water) and the children painted their eggs with this. They then added vinegar from squeezy bottles on the eggs, causing a delightfully bubbly, volcanic reaction. The process was repeated over and over until they had enough of watching the reaction between their paint and the vinegar (this took a long time...they were fascinated!) and the end result was rather exquisitely decorated Easter Eggs. Well done gang!

For our outside activity this week, the children are hanging washing up on a line using pegs. A super fine motor control excercise and one that both the boys and the girls really enjoy!
