Excavating Names Day

Today we started on a new journey with the children with regards to name recognition. Most of our munchkins can recognise their own names on sight already. We made a little game that we can play during circle time where we match up photos of all the children with their names; using the strip of clothing included in the name part of the puzzle as a guide to help us "match them up".
The children start to look at the shape and form of their friend's names and have fun recognising the photos of their peers. This is a great exercise for social awareness in our toddlers, and starting to look at each other in more depth. We encourage them to talk about their friend's picture. "Paco is wearing a blue and white shirt" and  "he has blonde hair" stimulating fun conversations about our appearance and parts of the body like hands, eyes, ears, nose etc.

The children can now sequence and name the different stages of  a frog's life cycle perfectly. They even know the vocabulary! "Eggs, Tadpole, Tadpole with back legs, Froglet and Frog" Paco calls the grown frog "mama frog"... So cute!

We wrote our children's names on pieces of coloured card and let them "excavate" their name like an archaeologist, using a paint brush. Such a fun, sensory name recognition game!
