Free Art Day

Today the children engaged in wondrous, self expressive, free art. We put a big sheet of paper on the floor and the munchkins had a blast pouring, spreading, dabbing and painting with the paint. I think the end result is rather magnificent! This week we are fastening elastic bands on pine cones for a fine motor exercise. It is quite fiddly and a super exercise to strengthen the pincer grip muscles and coordinate those fine movements of the hand. The children did some great spontaneous playing in the sandpit today with our ”loose parts” collection of random objects. I find it fascinating; what we consider to be just children playing is actually a series of complicated experimentation with the material world, exploring its dimensions, how things work, feel and react. It is laying the foundations for mathematics, language, lateral and creative thinking.
I think our children are just awesome.
Well done gang!
